Rapid Manufacturing

SCHMEES cast Prototyping - PMMA 3D-Druck

Together with our network partners, we offer a comprehensive range of services from the first draft to the production of high-quality metal components, both for single parts and for small series production.

Together with our customers, we find the best strategy for cost- and time-optimized production. From from planning, over the selection of the suitable manufacturing method up to the perfect, mechanical finishing all processes follow a thought-out project management. Final quality and measurement tests document the result of the operational workpiece.

Depending on the task, we use and combine conventional and digital manufacturing processes:

  • 3D metal printing (Electronic Beam Melting EBM)
  • Binder Jetting – 3D printing of sand moulds
  • SLS – Selective Laser Sintering for Polystyrene Models
  • PMMA models for investment casting
  • 3D milling

Retrofitting

Retrofit, i.e. the modernization, optimization and removal of existing components, offers many advantages over the simple replacement with an identical component. In many cases, the efficiency and service life of the entire system can be increased, or modified parts can be used to meet changed legal requirements.

Additvive manufacturing processes such as 3D printing are often used in the area of retrofitting. However, here too there are restrictions such as the size or a required material quality that is not available in 3D printing.

SCHMEES offers the advantage of combining classic steel casting with modern production methods. On the basis of digital simulations, we test alternative manufacturing processes and calculate corresponding variants using topology optimization tools.

Reverse Engineering

Reverse Engineering - Laser Scannen

Reverse engineering involves digitizing existing objects and creating a CAD model. Depending on the required accuracy and geometric form of the CAD file, objects and components are scanned either with high-precision CMM laser scanning or handheld scanning. The scanned data is displayed as a detailed point cloud and is then merged into a surface model of the component.

SCHMEES uses digitization, for example, to produce new components in additive manufacturing or as the basis for the aforementioned retrofitting. Reverse engineering is also used in quality assurance.

In the target/actual comparison, a produced cast part is digitized again by reverse engineering and compared to the CAD target part on the computer.
